NewTab Notes is designed with privacy as a core principle. All your notes, folders, and settings remain completely private on your device.
What Data We Do NOT Collect
NewTab Notes does not collect, transmit, or have access to:
- Personal Information: No names, email addresses, or contact details
- Note Content: We cannot see what you write in your notes
- Usage Analytics: No tracking of how you use the extension
- Browsing History: We don't track your browsing activity
- Location Data: No geographic or location information
- Device Information: No hardware or system details
- Cookies or Identifiers: No tracking cookies or persistent identifiers
How Your Data is Stored
All data created in NewTab Notes is stored locally using Chrome's built-in storage API:
- Local Storage Only: All notes, folders, settings, and wallpapers are stored exclusively on your device
- No Cloud Sync: Your data never leaves your computer
- No External Servers: We do not operate any servers that collect or process your data
- You Control Everything: You can export, backup, or delete all your data at any time
Permissions Explained
NewTab Notes requires minimal permissions to function:
- Storage Permission: Required to save your notes locally on your device
- New Tab Override: Required to replace the default new tab page with the notes interface
These permissions are used solely for the extension's core functionality and nothing else.
Data Export and Deletion
You have complete control over your data:
- Export: Use the settings menu to export all your data as a JSON file for backup
- Import: Restore your data from a previously exported backup
- Delete: Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data
- Clear Data: You can manually clear all extension data through Chrome's settings
Third-Party Services
NewTab Notes does not use any third-party services, analytics, or advertising networks. The extension operates entirely offline and independently.
Changes to Privacy Policy
If we ever make changes to this privacy policy, we will update this page with a new "Last Updated" date. Any changes will maintain our commitment to not collecting user data.
